Yes,
they were putt putt putting on the ritz down at
First Friday, on a course that's so surpassed the
windmills of yore it's hardly even the same sport.
The newest sporty addition to the largest monthly
street festival in Las Vegas is Obstacle Art (in
Commerce Street Studios) located at 1551 S. Commerce
and brought to you by Todd VonBastiaans/Alios and
Whirlygig Inc.
Twelve
local artists have made their way down that great
fairway of inspiration to bring to the golfing and
art-loving public an entire course of art commenting
on golf. Or is it golf commenting on art? There was
a 9 hole course at the location listed below, the
additional holes were displayed in various locations
throughout the city and rotated into the course so
each time you played it was different. See gallery
page for some of these imaginative creations.
Either
way, it's shots of fun like you've never
experienced. Plus, it's arty, sporty and supportive
of Las Vegas based artists and Whirlygig Inc., the
non-profit that produces First Friday. Think art and
golf are strange bedfellows? According to Funkhouser,
"I think it's harder to succeed as an artist than it
is as a golfer." Golf has set rules, there are none
in art.
